How to Measure Jacket Size?

The most important aspect of choosing a jacket that will look good on you is finding the right fit. When your jacket fits perfectly, you will look your absolute best.

To find the perfect fit, you need to know how to measure jacket size. This tutorial will provide step-by-step instructions for measuring your jacket size so you can find a jacket that fits your body flawlessly, along with instructional photos from this video.

What You Need to Follow this Tutorial

  • Non-stretchable measuring tape
  • Pen or pencil
  • Paper
  • Someone to assist you

You will need the measuring tape to measure various parts of your torso. The pen and paper is essential for recording the measurements as you obtain them. For some of these measurements, you will need a friend or assistant to hold the measuring tape.

Before you start measuring, make sure you are wearing a close-fitting t-shirt and pair of pants with no additional layers.

As you are measuring, stand up straight. Do not suck in your stomach or push it out.

Step 1 – Measure Your Shoulders

Stretch the measuring tape across the shoulder: place one end at the back of the left shoulder, then run the measuring tape across the neck to the edge of the right shoulder. Record the number of inches on your paper.

Step 2 – Measure Your Sleeves

You will need an assistant for this measurement. Place the end of the measuring tape on the edge of your shoulder and guide the tape down to your wrist, stopping at the point where you want the jacket sleeve to end. Record the number of inches on your paper.

Step 3 – Measure Your Biceps

You will need an assistant for this measurement. Let your arm hang straight down, relaxed. Have your assistant loop the measuring tape around the biggest part of your bicep. Record the number of inches on your paper.

Step 4 – Measure Your Wrist

Loop the tape measure around your wrist right above the wrist bone. Record the number of inches on your paper.

Step 5 – Measure Your Chest

Your assistant will need to perform this measurement. Wrap the measuring tape around the largest part of the chest, encircling the body. Make sure the tape is level. Record the number of inches on your paper.

Step 6 – Measure Your Natural Waist

The natural waist is the smallest area of the waist, usually an inch or two above the belly button.

Wrap the measuring tape all the way around this part of the waist. Record the number of inches on your paper.

Step 7 – Measure Your Lower Waist

The lower waist is the biggest part of the waist, usually just below the belly button. Wrap the measuring tape completely around this part of the waist. Record the number of inches on your paper.

Step 8 – Measure Your Hips

Wrap the measuring tape around the fullest part of the hips. Record the number of inches on your paper.

Step 9 – Measure Your Center Back Length

Place the end of the measuring tape at the top of the center of your back, so that is even with your shoulder blades.

Guide the tape down to your waist or the desired length of the jacket. Record the number of inches on your paper.

Conclusion
